A Bucharest driver who was stopped by police after breaking several traffic rules and managed to escape with the car despite being surrounded by police and gendarmes was released by prosecutors on Friday and placed under judicial control.
On Thursday, the man was detained for 24 hours for disturbing public order and peace. On Friday, the Prosecutor’s Office of the 4th District Court decided to release the driver, the press secretary of the institution, Daniel Geaburu, told HotNews.ro.
Why was the driver released? The cited prosecutor clarified that the limits of the punishment for committing the crime of violation of public order and peace, for which the driver is charged, do not allow for the formulation of a request for a preventive measure.
The prosecutor’s office took the man under judicial control for 60 days.
In a statement made after the hearing, the driver’s lawyer said that he regrets the act and will not repeat it, writes Libertatea. The lawyer also claimed that the young man was afraid of the intervention of the police and “ran away because he did not want to be dragged out of the window”, and the gendarmes put handcuffs on him.
who is the driver
The man is Şerban Michel Antonio, he is 26 years old, and the car he drove through the streets of the capital is registered in the name of his mother, a former Manele singer, stirilorprotv.ro reports.

On Wednesday night, traffic police teams asked the driver to stop because he violated several traffic rules.
- “He did not follow the policeman’s instructions, and a team of gendarmes from the General Directorate of Gendarmes of the Bucharest Municipality arrived to support him.
- At the request of the police to stop and get out of the car, the driver drove out of the territory, hitting two cars,” the Metropolitan Road Brigade reported.
Soon after, the car was found abandoned on the street in sector 4, and the driver was detained on Thursday morning, after 11 o’clock, in the Rahov district.
How did the driver manage to escape from the police and gendarmes who came to help?
The footage, which has become popular, shows the Mercedes driver humiliating the police and gendarmes who tried to stop him. Moreover, he himself later filmed himself while the police were looking for him, posting it on social networks, including footage of the incident.
