A driver from Bucharest was stopped by the police after he broke several traffic rules and managed to escape with the car, although he was surrounded by police and gendarmes, and was arrested.

A 26-year-old man was detained for 24 hours for disorderly conduct after being questioned for around seven hours. This after searching all night.

He was tested for alcohol and drugs, but both came back negative, Digi24 reported. Considering the fact that the examination was conducted almost 12 hours after the actions were committed, the man was taken to the INML to take blood and determine whether he had consumed alcohol or drugs.

How the driver defied the Police and the Gendarmerie – a chronology of facts

On Wednesday night, traffic police teams asked the driver to stop because he violated several traffic rules.

  • “He did not follow the policeman’s instructions, and a team of gendarmes from the General Directorate of Gendarmes of the Bucharest Municipality arrived to support him.
  • At the request of the police to stop and get out of the car, the driver drove out of the territory, hitting two cars,” the Metropolitan Road Brigade reported.

Soon after, the car was found abandoned on the street in sector 4, and the driver was detained on Thursday morning, after 11 o’clock, in the Rahov district.

How did the driver manage to escape from the police and gendarmes who came to help?

Next to the policeman who asked him to get out of the car, the driver tried to run away. It was blocked by a truck and several cars. When he tried to clear the road in his car and escape, four gendarmes tried unsuccessfully to break his window. He accelerated, hit two cars and managed to escape. He was one step away from hitting pedestrians who were crossing the street at that time.

Prior to this episode, the driver had been chased for 30 minutes at the Tineretului Boulevard intersection by the police, who saw him driving aggressively and illegally overtaking.

Previously, the prosecutor’s office pardoned the man, even though he was caught with drugs. The file is closed, reports Digi 24.
