Russian universities will introduce an official “ideological discipline”, an analogue of “scientific communism”, which was studied in higher educational institutions during the Soviet Union, writes “Meduza” with reference to two sources close to the Kremlin and three employees from the Russian university environment.

“Young people must understand ideology: where Russia is going and why,” one of the interlocutors close to the Kremlin told Meduza, recalling that similar “ideological classes” are already available in Russian schools.

They are called “Conversations about important things”, where teachers tell students about how Russia was “forced” to launch a “special operation” and “Ukrainian nationalism”. In April, the Minister of Education of Russia also announced that history will be studied in Russian schools from the first grade.

According to interlocutors of journalists of the website “Meduza” banned by the Russian authorities in March, the development of a new subject of study in universities is overseen by an internal political bloc of the Kremlin headed by the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration. Vladimir Putin

Moreover, this is not handled by the public projects department of the Kremlin, which traditionally deals with relations with Russian universities, but by the administration of the State Council, which usually manages election campaigns.

The new discipline will tell Russian students about the “rottenness” of the West

It is assumed that the new subject will be introduced at the university from the next academic year and, according to current plans, it will be studied by students of non-humanities majors during the year.

Humanities students would study it for several semesters, while political science and history students would study it throughout their studies.

One of the sources close to the Kremlin succinctly characterized the content of the new ideological discipline as follows:

“The West is rotting, it constantly pampered Russia, but its time has passed, we have a great future, a rich history and culture. It is necessary to use the moment of crisis and get everything out of it.”
