Regarding the situation with Simona Halep, who tested positive for a banned substance and was temporarily suspended from tennis, Andrei Redulescu, David Popovich’s coach, spoke about the criticism that he and the athlete are preparing.
Andrei Redulescu defends Davyd Popovichi
On the Inside with Brett Hawke podcast, David Popovich’s coach spoke candidly about the numerous doping allegations that the CS Dinamo Bucharest athlete received in the lead-up to important competitions.
“I know the process. This is not the first time people have said something like this. Even when he was at the national championship, at the age of 13-14, people said:
This is the situation I discussed with him. Perhaps children do not have this idea, but parents communicate with each other and a myth is born, which is then passed on to children. Maybe I will say something before the competition.
David was always a sociable, hardworking child, he liked to talk to everyone. I think there were other swimmers who told him that. When you hear that from kids who are 13 years old and they really believe it’s true, it’s very sad.” – he said Andriy Radulescu.
Also in the same podcast, host Brett Hawke noted:
“In the first interview I did with him, I told David: – I thought you were doping! – He showed 47.3 at the age of 16. I thought: this guy is doping, he can’t swim that fast.”
David Popovich talked about doping
“Racheta”, as the Romanian swimmer was nicknamed, also took part in a podcast called “Fair Play”, moderated by Bohdan Melele, where he extensively discussed the issue of doping or the use of banned substances.
“Doping is practiced in any sport that involves physical activity. It can help you build muscle or exercise better. There are all kinds of combinations. I do a lot of doping tests.
There are many people who say: – Well, you must be cheating. You are too good – . I say – OK, me. as you say – I don’t have much time to answer. But when I am seriously asked how I am tested, I say that I do a lot of anti-doping tests. There are tests that come randomly.
They can still call me – Where are you? – I say – I’m here, I’m on the podcast – . – Fine. We are waiting for you at home because we are here. You must provide a blood and urine sample.
And I can’t say no. If I say no, I might get fined. A fine can mean suspension. And no one wants to be banned from sports for several years.” – Davyd Popovych.
David Popovich admits that he passed more than 100 anti-doping tests
“Besides, I have nothing to hide either. It is necessary that the anti-doping authorities work because there is a need to maintain a level of honesty and fair play in sport. There will always be people willing to cheat. It is important to be able to catch them.
I think I passed more than 100 doping tests in my life. I also come at 5 in the morning, ring the doorbell directly, or during training. I have an app that tells me where I am every time.
They, the National Anti-Doping Agency, the International Olympic Committee and the International Swimming Federation know where I sleep every night, where I spend an hour a day, where I will be an hour. There are several subjects who can check me.
If they want to catch me when I don’t know they know where I am, they call me. Or I go home hoping to be home. If not, I must come. I have an obligation that does not bother me.” he also said Davyd Popovych.
Simona Halep interrupted cooperation with ANAD for a year – David Popovichi gives a positive example
“I am very sorry because Simona had a period when she was in contact with ANAD through her technical staff. He would ask us about medications, supplements, anything he was prescribed, if it was illegal.
From a certain moment, he did not contact us, for about a year. He no longer contacted us like David (not Popovich) or his parents. His parents call me regardless of their time zone” – Gabriela Andrejasu, head of ANAD, exclusively for HotNews.ro.
