Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke on Sunday with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in his second phone call in three days, the Defense Ministry said in a statement cited by Reuters.
Moscow did not provide additional information about the results of the conversation or any other specific issues of the discussion.
They spoke earlier on Friday for the first time since May. Earlier on Sunday, Shoigu held telephone conversations with the defense ministers of Great Britain, France and Turkey.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke on the phone with his British counterpart Ben Wallace on Sunday about the situation in Ukraine, AFP reported in a statement from the Russian army.
During this rare telephone conversation, which took place after a conversation with French and Turkish colleagues, Shoigu conveyed to Wallace “his concern about possible provocations by Ukraine using a ‘dirty bomb,'” the report said.
Shoigu also relayed the same to French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecorne, providing no evidence to support the suggestion that Ukraine might use such weapons.
A so-called dirty bomb (radiological weapon) uses conventional explosives mixed with radioactive material.
The Ministry of Defense in Moscow did not provide additional information on its statement, Reuters also noted.
