Judges of the Timișoara court decided on preventive arrest for 30 days of the director of the National Roads and Motorways Service Department of CNAIR, Flore Dascalu. He is accused of bribery and abuse of influence in a continuous form. After more than two hours of hearings, the judges of the Timișoara Court decided on the preventive arrest of Florea Daskalu, News.ro reports.

Florea Dascalu was arrested by DNA prosecutors on Sunday on charges of bribery, influence peddling in a continuous form, allowing unauthorized persons to access information that is not intended to be made public, in order to obtain money, goods or other undeserved benefits.

“The prosecutors of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate – Timisoara Territorial Service have ordered the opening of a criminal investigation and the detention for 24 hours, starting on October 23, 2022, of the suspect DASCĂLU FLOREA, Director of the Department of National Roads and Highways National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR), under which the detained crimes: bribery; trading in influence, in full form (7 material documents); giving third parties access to information not intended for publication, with the aim of obtaining money, goods or other unlawful benefit by another person (5 material documents).

According to the prosecutor’s office, in the period from May to October 22, 2022, Florea Dascalu, as a director, allegedly repeatedly received sums of money and other benefits (a total of 37,060 lei) from the administrator of a commercial company (witness) in order to exert influence, which he had on some public and private officials, promising (promises materialized later) that he would make them perform actions that were part of their duties to support the commercial activities of the respective administrator (winning contracts and work on road aesthetics and snow removal) . In addition, given the amount mentioned and the undue benefit obtained, in the course of his duties, the suspect would have provided the same administrator with several non-public data, information intended to ensure his victory in the tenders organized by CNAIR.

“Thus, for the described actions, the suspect Dascălu Florea received an amount of 10,000 lei and an unlawful benefit in the amount of 2,060 lei on 07.05.2022, an amount of 10,000 lei on 12.07.2022, and an amount of 10,000 lei and an unlawful benefit in the amount of 5,000 lei on 22.10.2022 , in recent circumstances, the prosecutors ascertained the commission of a flagrant crime,” DNA notes.

“The management of CNAIR has taken note of the 24-hour detention of CNAIR’s maintenance director, Flore Dascala, and DNA’s proposal for his preventive arrest for 30 days. “Depending on the court’s decision regarding the DNA request in this case and in accordance with the labor legislation, a decision will be made on the suspension of director Flore Dascala,” the company said.
