President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou the exhibition “Vasilis Theocharakis. On the Edge” at the B&M Theocharakis Visual Arts and Music Foundation with works created in the last decade.

During her greetings, Ms. Sakellaropoulou emphasized that Vassilis Theocharakis is a bronze entrepreneur and founder of a treasure trove of knowledge and spiritual improvement such as the Cultural Foundation for Fine Arts and Music, and at the same time a great and recognized artist. “A wonderful landscape painter, focused on approximating and conveying the grandeur of Greek nature, a worthy student of great teachers such as Spyros Papaloukas, he enriched his contemporary artistic vision with elements of our tradition and established a very special pictorial idiolect. For him, the Greek natural and inhabited landscape offers a measure of artistic creativity that speaks to the problems of contemporary art, never departing from the element of performance,” the president said.

Referring to his works, she emphasized that “Vasilis Theocharakis was inspired by nature not just to capture her charms, not to “rewrite” her on the canvas, but to convey her essence, perceived by his sensitive gaze. He uses color as a means of expressing emotions. He masterfully captures the play of light with his pigment. And because he maintains an inner, intuitive connection with his models, he gives a completely personal, inner character to his otherwise accurate representations, turning the visible into a ghostly one and creating bridges from physical spaces to the unexplored lands of metaphysics.

Finally, the President of the Republic emphasized the modesty with which he serves his art. As he said: “Passionate about painting, in love with colors and brushes since childhood, he is an important artist who expresses a world wider than the horizons of his ego and a true ambassador of Greek artistic citizenship.”
