Amy Winehouse series in development

A new series based on the life of Amy Winehouse is in development.

Production studio Halcyon has bought the rights to Daphne Barack’s best-selling book “Saving Amy” and is reportedly adapting it into an eight-episode series.

The series focuses on the singer’s relationship, including with her family and father Mitch, as well as her talent and struggle with drug addiction.

Writer Mel Young is set to adapt the book, which chronicles the six months that Barak and producer Erbil Gunasty spent with the singer and her family.

“Even though her career ended too soon, Amy has become the voice of a generation, and we look forward to telling her story in the most touching way possible,” said David Elender, CEO of Halcyon Studio.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of just 27 from an alcohol overdose after being in rehab and also taking heroin.

An upcoming biopic about English singer-songwriter directed by Sam Taylor Johnson titled “Back To Black” is also based on “Saving Amy”, though it’s not clear if the two projects are related.
