
Billionaire Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, said on Tuesday that SpaceX’s Starlink services had not received funding from the US Department of Defense, a day after it was reported that the Pentagon would consider paying for the Starlink satellite network in Ukraine, Reuters reported.
SpaceX is losing about $20 million a month due to unpaid services and costs related to security measures to protect against cyberwarfare, but “we’re going to keep doing it,” Musk wrote on Twitter.
“We don’t have any money from the US Department of Defense, but several other countries, organizations and individuals are paying between $11,000 and $25,000 for the terminals,” Musk said.
Musk, the world’s richest man and chief executive of Tesla, said SpaceX spends nearly $20 million a month to support satellite services in Ukraine and that the firm has spent about $80 million to support them.
The Pentagon is considering paying for services to Ukraine, Politico reported Monday, citing two US officials involved in the discussions.
Last week, Elon Musk said in a message published on Twitter that SpaceX cannot “indefinitely” finance Starlink internet service in Ukraine, News.ro reports.
