“Families of residents mobilized in Yakutsk can contact the support center for the families of Zhovt participants. [la mobilizare] for a one-time package with fresh vegetables,” said Yakutsk Mayor Yevgeny Grigoriev in a video broadcast on local television.

Then he explains what will be in the bag of vegetables: cabbage, potatoes, carrots, beets and onions, “all of which are grown near the city of Yakutsk.”

“If necessary, volunteers will deliver them to their home address,” Grigoriev assures.

His statement came after authorities in Tuva, the home region of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, said in late September that families of conscripts mobilized there would receive a sheep, two sacks of potatoes, flour and other food if needed.

Tuva is one of the Russian regions where small protests against the mobilization have also erupted, with foreign analysts noting that in the regions of the Russian Far East and other poor areas of the country, the mobilization appears to be total, in contrast to the big cities of western Russia.

Other promises to Russian recruits in Yakutia

The head of the commissariat in Yakutia, Oleksandr Avdonin, announced on September 22, the day after Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on partial mobilization, that Russians who will go to fight in Ukraine will receive a monthly allowance of 205,000 rubles (approximately 3,400 euros). . ), depending on the position and class.

He also assured that the recruiting authorities would not recruit people without military experience, a claim that was proven false in the days that followed.

In Yakutia, the first footage of the mobilization ordered by Putin appeared, showing tearful men saying goodbye to their families. Numerous shots that later appeared on social networks captured less dramatic moments, some of which bordered on the ridiculous.

A video released by recruits in Yakutia in early October also shows what men sent to training centers receive from local authorities: a first-aid kit, tampons and chocolate.
