State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Adriana Pistole, announced that five patients infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria died in the ATI unit of Tirgu Mures District Hospital, and the unit was closed, News.ro reported.
Adriana Pistole said on Saturday that the dead patients had serious pathologies.
“At the level of the Mures County Clinical Hospital, an outbreak of healthcare-associated infection was detected, an outbreak consisting of 6 cases, 5 of which resulted in death, cases that were reported and identified in recent days. (.. .) The patients had numerous pathologies, they were hospitalized, and because of these severe pathologies, they were subjected to a number of manipulations and invasive procedures. The infections we are talking about are microbes with high resistance to antibiotics. We are talking about pus and acinetobacter here,” said Adriana Pistole, quoted by TVR.
She noted that it is necessary to carry out a bacteriological examination of all patients who are still in the intensive care unit in order to find out whether there are still cases of infection of patients with these bacteria.
