As AFP reports, the head of the UN nuclear organization said that progress is being made in creating a safe zone around the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi tweeted photos from a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in a bunker in Kyiv on Thursday, saying “we are making progress” in creating a buffer zone around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
Later on Thursday, Grossi told reporters in Kyiv that “the work is ongoing and I think we are making good progress.”
However, he added that “the situation continues to be extremely fragile, extremely unstable.”
In a tweet, Kuleba said that during a meeting with Grossi on Thursday, Kuleba “reiterated that Russia must withdraw from the NPP to ensure nuclear safety and security, immediately stop kidnapping and intimidation of Ukrainian personnel.”
