​Romania will transfer approximately 25.5 million euros to the Republic of Moldova to start implementing projects in strategic areas such as education and improving public services, the government announced Thursday. This amount is part of the €100 million non-refundable financial assistance provided for in the bilateral agreement on technical and financial assistance signed in February this year.

The second meeting of the Coordination Committee for the management of the bilateral aid agreement between Romania and the Republic of Moldova was held on Wednesday in the Victoria Palace under the leadership of the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mirchi Abrudian. This meeting was attended by representatives of line ministries, as program operators, with the aim of approving the project proposals sent by the State Office of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Government, through 57 investment projects envisaged by the “European Village” project, access to improved water supply and drainage services will be ensured for more than 95,000 people.

At the same time, to ensure a high-quality educational process, 135 institutions of general secondary education will be equipped with laboratory equipment for physics, chemistry, and biology classrooms. In addition, 125 minibuses and 14 school buses specially designed for transporting children with disabilities will be purchased.

The coordination committee meets periodically to monitor the implementation of projects, as well as to approve new proposals of the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova.

On February 11, 2022, the Prime Ministers of Romania and the Republic of Moldova signed in Chisinau a bilateral agreement on the implementation of the technical and financial assistance program based on non-refundable financial assistance in the amount of 100 million euros provided by Romania to the Republic of Moldova.

The term of performance is 7 years from the date of entry into force of the Agreement. In order to complete the current projects and activities, to ensure that the Republic of Moldova fully utilizes the funds provided by the Government of Romania, the implementation of the Agreement may be extended for a maximum of 3 years.
