Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky announced on Wednesday in Prague that the Czech Republic will introduce a ban on the entry of Russians with Schengen visas for tourism and sports or cultural events from October 25.

The ban applies regardless of the EU country that issues the visa, DPA and Agerpres reported.

The Czech Republic already suspended most visas for Russians shortly after the invasion of Ukraine in late February.

With the current strengthening of the rules, the Czech government is following the example of several other countries, in particular Poland and the Baltic states.

So far, about 200 Russian citizens with Schengen visas arrive in the Czech Republic by air every day.

Nobody can turn a blind eye to the fact that Russia mercilessly bombs peaceful objects in Ukraine, said Lipavskyi.
