In the Kremlin on Wednesday, the “gesture of attention” of Russian President Vladimir Putin to his colleague from the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, to whom he presented his coat, was explained as a gesture of attention, Lenta reports.

“There is a certain gesture of attention here, which fully reflects the mutual attitude of the leaders,” Dmytro Peskov explained the gesture of his boss by the fact that the weather was cool during the meeting of the two presidents in St. Petersburg.

Russian mass media note that Al Nahyan came to the meeting wearing sneakers and socks from the American company Nike, otherwise he was dressed in traditional clothes for the emirate.

Experts contacted by Russian journalists assessed the UAE president’s choice and stated that he did not violate protocol.

In their opinion, the appearance of the head of the UAE complied with the rules of the dress code. “But the choice was unusual,” experts noted.

After Tuesday’s meeting, Putin said Russia was not acting “against anyone” in the energy markets, and claimed Moscow was “looking for a balance” between oil supply and demand.

His comments came a week after the OPEC+ group, which includes Russia, decided to sharply cut global oil production, drawing sharp criticism from the United States.

Instead, the Kremlin approved this decision with the voice of its spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
