Elon Musk spoke directly with Vladimir Putin before releasing his peace plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, which would permanently hand over Ukrainian territory to Moscow, said Ian Bremmer, director of consulting firm Eurasia Group.

Musk responded to Bremmer’s claims and said that “they are not true” and clarified that he had “discussed with Putin only once, about space, about 18 months ago,” according to The Guardian, as cited by News.ro.

In a letter sent to subscribers of the consulting company Eurasia Group, director Ian Bremmer said that Elon Musk told him that the Russian president is “ready to negotiate” if the Crimean peninsula remains in Russian hands.

Putin also insisted that Ukraine would have to accept permanent neutrality and recognize Russia’s annexation of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions.

According to Bremmer, Musk said that Putin told him that those goals would be achieved “no matter what,” including the possible use of nuclear weapons if Ukraine invaded Crimea.

According to Bremmer, Musk told the Russian leader that “everything possible should be done to avoid such an outcome.”

After the alleged conversation with Putin, Musk published a poll on Twitter with his proposals for ending the war in Ukraine.

Thus, the billionaire noted that in order to achieve peace, Russia needs to be allowed to keep the Crimean peninsula, which it occupied in 2014.

He also proposed holding a vote in the Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, which the Kremlin says it will annex.

“Russia is leaving if it is the will of the people,” Musk said.

The peace agreement stipulates that the Crimean Peninsula “will officially be part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (before Khrushchev’s mistake); ensuring water supply in Crimea and Ukraine’s neutrality,” News.ro reports.
