Russian television is trying to explain the shelling of residential buildings in Ukraine by Moscow’s armed forces as a “technical curiosity” of Ukrainian air defense.

“Ukrainian propaganda does not show images of damaged critical infrastructure, showing only the consequences of explosions on the streets of the city. But, judging by the nature of these injuries, they were not caused by cruise missiles, but by the consequences of air defense,” said the report, which was broadcast by one of the state television stations in Moscow.

He then cuts to Oleksiy Leonkov, a Russian military expert, who says the “information” presented is a “completely credible explanation.”

“We saw in March at the beginning of this year, when we hit military targets in Kyiv, and the air defenses defending Kyiv tried to shoot down our missiles and theirs. [antiaeriene] they flew right into the building,” he says.

Leonkov further states that this was due to a “technical quirk” of the anti-aircraft missiles, which could not react quickly enough to the cruise missiles launched by the Russians.

“In addition, cruise missiles do not fly along a ballistic trajectory. They are maneuvering to fix the target on the final part of the flight,” he claims, after which the report shows how a Russian missile hits a power plant in Kyiv.

“Before hitting the target, the missile suddenly changes its trajectory. That is why Ukrainian air defense missiles fly into residential buildings, and not Russian “Caliber”, insists the announcer of the video.

Russia threatened Ukraine with new missile strikes

On Monday afternoon, President Vladimir Putin spoke personally about the missile strikes on Ukraine, saying he ordered them in response to Saturday’s explosion on the Kerch bridge.

Putin threatened to respond “harshly” to any further attacks from Ukraine.

“If Ukraine continues to commit terrorist acts on our territory, Russia’s response will be harsh, and its scale will correspond to the level of threats created for the Russian Federation. No one should have any doubts about this,” he thundered.

Although officials in Kyiv rejoiced after the explosion on the bridge connecting Crimea with Russia, Ukraine did not officially claim to be behind it.

At least 19 people were killed and 105 injured in Monday’s terrorist attacks targeting the capital Kyiv and other major cities, according to data released Tuesday afternoon by Ukrainian authorities.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced on Tuesday that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure continued today.
