I’m fascinated by Meursault from Albert Camus’s Happy Death. “In the face of suffering and loneliness, today’s heart said no. And in the great despair that seized him, Meursault clearly felt that the only true thing in him was rebellion, and everything else was squalor and lies.
I think smoking Camus with his melancholic, contemplative style, Tennessee Williams with his penetrating sensuality, Charles Bukowski with his beer and Andreas Empiricos with his impassioned readings would complete the scene perfectly. Especially if Tom Waits is standing in some corner with his piano.
