Magda Fissa: “The earth opened up under my feet”

Yesterday, without undue tension, the trial of the criminal activities of the leaders of the Golden Dawn in the second instance (Court of Appeal) continued with shocking testimony from the mother of the deceased Pavel Fissabrutally murdered by Giorgos Rupakias in September 2013. Magda Fissawho did not miss a day of A.A.’s trial, which lasted about five years in the first degree and led to convictions with years of charges against all political leaders – at that time – of the Golden Dawn, described with determination and yesterday that happened on that fateful night when her son died. “I am Magda, and Pavlos is my son,” were her first words when, in front of the judges, she unraveled the tangle of an attack by AA members, as a result of which her son was mortally wounded by a criminal’s knife. Giorgos Rupakias, serving a life sentence.

In court during yesterday’s testimony of Magda Fissa, the defendants political leaders A.A. it was only about Ioannis Lagos, a member of the European Parliament suspended in connection with a conviction for the organization’s criminal activities, who also applied for television coverage of the meeting, while repeating that “he is a political prisoner.” Magda Fissa commented on Lagos’ position, noting that “if Lagos is a political prisoner, the bones of political prisoners will crack.”

Tensions arose in the court when Kostas Pleuris, Ioannis Lagos’ attorney, saluted in Nazi fashion as the court left the courtroom.

The mother of Pavlos Fissa spoke in detail about the murder in September 2013, which also became the reason for the judicial interpretation of the criminal activities of A.A. and eventually led to its dissolution. “The ground opened up under my feet,” said a witness when her son was killed by Giorgos Rupakias. “Here comes the killer, everyone stepped aside. He hugged Paul and stabbed him. Three professional strikes. Two in the heart and one in the thigh, in the aorta. Whoever did this was trained, the doctor also told us so,” the tragic mother added, adding that her son “was targeted” during the attack by AA members.

During the trial, which was attended by dozens of friends of Pavlos Fissas and opponents of authoritarianism, there was applause and shouting at the witness, and there was an incident with the lawyer of Ioannis Lagos Kostas Plevris, who, in a confrontation with the witness, provoked by a salute in a Nazi manner, when the court left the room. The trial continues on Monday with consideration of Fissa’s murder, the most basic of many included in the heavy indictment.
