
American Taylor Fritz won the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo, defeating his compatriot Francis Tiafoe in the final.
Fritz (11 ATP) won after almost two hours of play with a score of 7-6(3), 7-6(2).
Taylor also defeated James Duckworth (109 ATP), Hiroki Moriya (253 ATP), Nick Kyrgios (20 ATP/penalty) and Denis Shapovalov (22 ATP) while competing in Japan.

At the age of 24, the American has three more titles: Eastbourne (2019 and 2022) and Indian Wells (2022).
The last American to win a tournament in Japan was Pete Sampras (1996).
Thanks to the course in Tokyo, Fritz will climb three positions in the ATP hierarchy. As of Monday, October 10, Taylor will be ranked No. 8 (a career high).
