Just 3 months ago, Russian propaganda claimed that the Crimean bridge was impossible to attack thanks to 20 different defense methods, including military dolphins, says Elizaveta Tsurkova, a researcher at the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy in the US.

“What a colossal failure,” she writes on Twitter, posting a link to an article in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper that convincingly explains why the Kerch Bridge cannot be struck.

Komsomolskaya Pravda wrote that a bridge in Crimea is being protected from airstrikes simultaneously by two S-400 regiments. They create a protective “dome” with a diameter of 400 kilometers. In addition, there is additional multi-stage protection by means of air defense, in particular “S-1 Armor”, “Thor” and others.

In addition, the Russian newspaper convincingly explained, even underwater sabotage groups could not succeed, because they would have to shoot half a ton of TNT underwater:

“It should be taken into account that the bridge has a dense anti-sabotage protection system (combat swimmers, special boats and electronic sensors on the piers take turns). There is also other equipment – the so-called missing equipment.

This is a hydroacoustic system of suppressing saboteurs “Swimmer” – when underwater swimmers (or ordinary divers) are detected at a distance of less than 300 meters from the bridge, a sound signal is turned on with a demand to leave the prohibited zone. If the uninvited guest does not change course and swims closer to the piers of the bridge 100 meters, the intensity of the sound signal suddenly increases, to the point of pain, and the person can no longer stand it.

“On land, according to Russian propaganda, the bridge is guarded by units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and on water by the Black Sea Fleet and the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB.

In addition, the facility is guarded by a special purpose marine brigade of the Russian Guard – its crews patrol the water area on anti-sabotage boats, the personnel is armed with two medium-caliber machine guns, as well as hand machine guns, grenade launchers and portable anti-aircraft missile complexes.

Also, the Crimean bridge is guarded by means of radio-electronic warfare. Drone flights are prohibited, even in the remote area of ​​the bridge.”
