Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (February 24), more than a million Ukrainians have entered Germany, according to data presented on Friday by the German Ministry of the Interior.

A total of 1,002,763 Ukrainian citizens are registered in Germany, German Interior Minister Nancy Faser told the T-Online news site, DPA and Agerpres reported.

“I saved the lives of many women and children in Ukraine. So far, we have done a good job with this gigantic task,” Feiser added.

“The longer the war lasts, the more difficult it will be to receive and care for such a large number of refugees,” warned a representative of the German government.

New data released Friday by Eurostat show that in August, Poland took in the most Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, 67,280, followed by Germany, which took in 62,140 Ukrainians.

In the same month, 9,715 Ukrainians entered Romania, 6,410 to France, and 6,165 to Spain.

In 12 of the 22 Member States for which Eurostat had reliable information, the number of people seeking temporary protection fell in August, most notably in Bulgaria, which saw 2,000 fewer arrivals than in July.

According to the Polish government, about 1.3 million Ukrainians lived in Poland in September, while in June Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for more than 2 million.

This situation is caused by the fact that more and more Ukrainian refugees are returning to their country, which has a 500-kilometer border with Poland, explained in September the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland, Pawel Ĺ efernaker.
