A symbol of rebirth and transformation, the butterfly has always been the emblem of Mariah Carey, one of the queens of pop who held the scepter for decades without fading away. The singer-songwriter, with sales of at least 200 million albums worldwide, has signed or co-signed 18 of her 19 No. 1 albums. In 1997, Carey even released an album called Butterfly, during a period marked by rapid changes in her life, during which she had to rediscover herself, to be reborn. But the butterfly is also one of Chopard’s favorite motifs because it symbolizes joy, optimism and the spirit of freedom. So the meeting of the famous diva and the artistic director and co-chair of Chopard was something of a karma. Mariah Carey turned to Caroline Scheufele to create the Haute Joaillerie collection.

How did it all start? It was Christmas 2020 when Mariah Carey received a treasure book from the Red Carpet collection, Chopard’s high jewelery collection that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival that same year, along with a silk scarf with a butterfly in her design. She was impressed by Chopard’s imagination, high professionalism and ethics and wanted to do something extraordinary to celebrate the diamond disc she had just received for the legendary song. All I want for Christmas is youcontacted Caroline Scheufele and asked them to collaborate on high jewelery creations dedicated to – what else – butterflies.

The creative collaboration between the two women resulted in three exciting pieces of jewelry from the Chopard X Mariah Carey collection, as well as the more comfortable and accessible Happy Butterfly X Mariah Carey collection. Their official debut took place on September 16 at a high-profile event in New York.

The Haute Joaillerie collection consists of a massive necklace, a pair of asymmetrical earrings and a ring crafted from ethically sourced white gold and fully set with diamonds. The butterfly plays the leading role in all three, which, in addition to its impressive size and sensual curves, carries a message of joy, sensitivity and freedom.
Mariah Carey’s Happy Butterfly X Collection maintains the aesthetic codes of Chopard’s legendary Happy Diamonds collection with diamonds that ‘dance free’, only now the jewels are shaped like a butterfly.
These are creations in white or rose gold of ethical origin, adorned with diamonds, and in some cases, precious butterflies are made of carnelian and are red in color.
