Last year, the award was shared between the American journalist of Filipino origin, Maria Ressa, and the Russian journalist, Dmytro Muratov, “for their efforts to protect freedom of speech.”

This year’s award will be announced against the background of Russia’s war against Ukraine, which has already entered its eighth month, and against the background of the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the international press, this year’s favorites include Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Russian opponent Oleksiy Navalny, Pope Francis, Belarusian opponent Svitlana Tsykhanuska, and the World Health Organization.

The value of the Nobel Prize is SEK 10 million (approximately EUR 1.1 million). The amount is divided if there are several laureates of the same award.

All announcements are live on Nobelprize.org.
