Russia summoned French Ambassador Pierre Levy to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow on Thursday to protest against the supply of arms to Ukraine, as Kyiv reclaimed territories with these arms, AFP reports.
“The Russian side emphasized the danger associated with the increase in the supply of weapons and equipment to the Kyiv regime, as well as the intensification of training programs for the training of the Ukrainian military,” the Russian diplomacy said in a statement.
“This line contradicts the statements in Paris by officials who say they want a peaceful settlement in Ukraine,” the source added, adding that the French ambassador spoke with Russian Deputy Minister Oleksandr Hrushko.
On September 20, Pierre Levy already met with Grouchko in Moscow. In a press release, the Russian diplomacy then recognized as “unacceptable” the continuation of the “forced supply of western weapons to Ukraine, including French weapons.”
Since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine on February 24, Paris has delivered military equipment to Kyiv, including 18 long-range Caesar self-propelled howitzers, which are particularly powerful for striking supply lines behind the front.
France is considering supplying Kiev with six to 12 additional copies of this truck-mounted 155mm howitzer taken from an order for Denmark, a close source told AFP on Monday, confirming a report by Le Monde newspaper.
Paris is also studying the possibility of delivering 20 Bastion armored vehicles to Kyiv.
Ukraine, having received numerous supplies of Western, especially American, weapons, successfully launched several counter-offensives from the beginning of September and recaptured a significant territory from Russian troops.
