Actor Alec Baldwin and the producers of the western “Rust” have reached a settlement with the family of director Galina Hutchins, who Baldwin shot and killed on the set last year, her husband said on Wednesday, according to Reuters. The settlement ends civil lawsuits filed by the Hutchins family against Alec Baldwin.
Under the deal, the family’s civil suit against Baldwin and others will be dismissed, and filming will resume in January with all the original principal cast, Matthew Hutchins said in a statement.
In October 2021, a low-budget film was being shot at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico, when 42-year-old Galina Hutchins died.
Baldwin was rehearsing a scene with a revolver when he fired a bullet that hit the director of the chicken, as well as director Joel Souza, who survived.
“I have no interest in pursuing criminal charges or indicting (the producers or Mr. Baldwin),” said Hutchins, an M&A lawyer who will serve as an executive producer of the film under the deal. “We all believe that Galina’s death was a terrible accident.”

New Mexico prosecutors said in September that Baldwin and others could face criminal charges in Hutchins’ death. Investigators focused on who owned the gun that fired Baldwin.
The actor of the series “30 Rock” and “Saturday Night Live” denied responsibility for the death of Hutchins and said that live bullets should not have been allowed on the set.
“We are grateful to everyone who helped resolve this tragic and painful situation,” his attorney, Luke Nikas, said in a statement about the settlement.
Hutchins’ attorney, Brian Panish, said at the February trial that Baldwin bears substantial responsibility for the killing because he should have checked the gun for live bullets, should not have pointed it at the person and should not have pulled the trigger.
Baldwin said he was told the gun was “cold,” an industry term for safe to use, and that he did not pull the trigger.
An FBI forensic examination of the revolver found that it “functioned normally” and would not have discharged without the trigger being pulled.
Thus, the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America has confirmed that the American actor Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger of the gun with which the director Galina Hutchins was fatally shot almost a year ago on the set of the western “Rust”. .
The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the company that made the film the maximum possible amount for what it called a “willful” safety violation that led to Hutchins’ death.
