Andor
FANTASY (2022)
Creator: Tony Gilroy
InterpretationsCast: Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Alex Furns
The parade of series that take us back to the fantasy world of Star Wars time and time again continues on Disney+, this time with a completely different style and aesthetic. As the title suggests, the new series stars Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), a character we met in the successful Star Wars: Rogue One. Here we go back a few years, with our protagonist on some industrial planet in the outer ring, which is controlled by a powerful corporation in the name of the empire. When Cassian gets into a fight that ends badly, he will be forced to find a way to escape while the Authorities are on his trail. Perhaps as dark and dystopian as any Star Wars episode to date, Andor sends us into a truly decadent world. Where the corporate governance system, rules and heroes live among the dust and scrap metal. A vintage character that helped fuel the success of previous sister series (like The Mandalorian) is of course back, along with the much-anticipated toughness, but also the excitement that always brings with it revolution in its infancy.

PERIOD DRAMA (2018)
Directed by: Laszlo Nemeth
Interpretations: Zili Jacob, Vlad Ivanov, Urs Rehn
On the ERTFLIX platform, we choose the second film from the creator of the sensational “Son of Saul” Laszlo Nemeth. Here, too, the context is historical: in particular, Budapest in 1913, where a young woman, Iris Leiter, comes to work as a milliner in a luxury shop once owned by her parents. When the new owner refuses, she begins a relentless search for the missing links in her family’s past. At the same time, the Lighter store and the city are getting ready to welcome special guests. Nemeth retains his signature cinematic style of constantly moving the camera to aim at the protagonist’s back, but adapting it to a larger scale. Here we have not only vague sets and confused voices whispering around the camera, but also very large sets, squares and richly staged scenes that really convey to us the mood of the time. No less interesting thematically. Using a simple story of a girl, Nemeth plunges us into the bowels of a seemingly bright society, but ready to plunge into the chaos and destruction of the impending First World War.
