The case on the complaints of the late businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos, who filed serious charges against the honorary chairman of the Supreme Court, was brought to court for the second time. Vasiliki Thanos.

The second consecutive investigation was carried out by the Financial Prosecutor’s Office, and, as it became known, with the statement of Ms. Tanu, the result was again in favor of archiving the relevant case.

The second investigation into the complaints of Vgenopoulos about unlawful demands from the then President of the Supreme Court in order to settle his criminal cases through a third party began on the occasion of the publication on a well-known website (iefimerida.gr) of an audio document with relevant conversations about the complaints of Vgenopoulos.

Following the withdrawal of the petition dated 05.11.2016 by I. Vgenopoulos, which was ordered on 5 May 2022 by the Attorney General of Athens, Chr. Bardakis and after a new investigation by Assistant Financial Attorney Mk. Poimenidis, the latter, by his decree No. 1503/2022, decided that the complaints of A. Vgenopoulos against the Chairman of the Supreme Court Vasiliki Thanos were completely unproven and that the above indictment should be added to the case for the second time. .

The Financial Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to re-evaluating all the evidence that had already been collected and evaluated, in 2016 by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Anna Zairis, collected other data, as well as investigated the audio conversation between A. Vgenopoulos and D.M., which was recorded in April 2016 by the late businessman himself, but without ever referring to the audio recording in question, neither during the filing of his complaint, nor later, when he was called and questioned as a witness before the prosecutor.

This audio was made public over the internet six (6) years later with the publication of the iefimerida website on February 23, 2022, without ever being explained by the person responsible in what dark and suspicious way it appeared. into his hands and mainly for what reason, instead of handing over the object in question to the prosecutor’s office, as he is obliged to do according to the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to post it on the Internet, falsely imagining that it was allegedly proved from this audio that “Tanu blackmailed Vgenopoulos”, thereby dragging the adj. The Chairman of the Supreme Court and former Prime Minister, who has worked in the judiciary for 42 years, is widely described as a conscientious and honest bailiff. The Financial Prosecutor’s Office, after a thorough investigation that lasted several months, having evaluated all the evidence, decided that it was not proven that President Vasiliki Tanu sent D.M. as his envoy demanding compensation from businessman A. Vgenopoulos. (Recall that the investigation of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Anna Zairis, which was conducted in 2016, came to the same conclusion).

Of particular note is the fact that ep. On January 9, 2022, President Vassiliki Tanu, with an application submitted to the competent financial prosecutor, asked to be summoned and testify, again, in the now archival case, with the exception that the prosecutor who conducted the investigation himself considered that this was not at all necessary for the move/2nd presentation of the indictment in question.

Therefore, the slander against Vasiliki Tanu, which was contained in the publication of the above website, was completely excluded, i.e. a) that Vgenopoulos allegedly blackmailed Tanu from the released audio recording and how and in what way the complaints against her were proved, thereby also violating the presumption of innocence that journalists are required to observe in accordance with the rules of journalistic ethics and b) that the prosecutor’s alleged previous order regarding archiving was the subject of negotiations as a result of collusion between Vasiliki Thanos and Anna Zyris.

The decision to indemnify the claim, which was brought by the President of the Supreme Court ex. Vasiliki Tanu against the manager of the aforementioned website, Christos Raptis, for insulting her personality.
