“I want to state this clearly: the United States will never, never, never recognize Russia’s claims to the sovereign territory of Ukraine,” said the American president during a summit in Washington, where the leaders of some islands in the Pacific Ocean gathered.

“The so-called referendums were a travesty, an absolute travesty. The results were organized in Moscow,” President Biden added, congratulating the Ukrainians’ “sacrifice” to “save their people and preserve the independence of their country.”

Referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leader of the White House also assessed that “Russia’s aggression in Ukraine with the aim of promoting Putin’s imperial ambitions is a gross violation of the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

The statements of the American president were made at a time when On Friday in Moscow, Vladimir Putin will officially formalize Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regionsstrongly condemned by Kyiv and its Western allies.

On Friday at 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT) the Kremlin will hold a ceremony of official registration of the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk (east) and Kherson and Zaporizhia regions (south). According to his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin will deliver a “meaningful speech” on this occasion.

Previously, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also condemned these “referendums”, which are “nothing more and nothing less than the confiscation of territories”.

“This parody of referendums organized by the Kremlin is just a futile attempt to disguise what is nothing more and nothing less than another attempt to seize territories in Ukraine,” the head of Washington’s diplomacy said in a statement.
