Former coach Mirel Radoi said on Thursday that he hopes Edi Iordenescu will continue to work on the national team’s bench, even if Romania is relegated to Division C of the Nations League.
“I think we could have taken six points in this game. I liked what I saw in the national team. I hope Edi Iordenescu continues. I know it’s unsatisfactory and quite frustrating that we’re relegated, but in the end we have to accept it.
And this can be a starting point for us to understand that we have nothing left but to try and, whoever the coach of the national team is, to help him from all points of view. It’s very easy to hurt and criticize, we have to find concrete solutions, because I’m sure he’s also watching what’s being said, and it should be something useful for the national team” – Mirel Radoyat a press conference quoted by Agerpres.
The coach of the University of Craiova believes that the unsatisfactory results of the national team are closely related to the fact that Romanian teams no longer participate in international competitions, as it was before.
“I think that the lack of international matches in recent years affects the national team. I look back and see how four or five teams from the Romanian championship played in the European Cups, which has not happened for a long time. This can be a new starting point, even if we are on this slide, we can turn it around and start climbing, improving things from now on. I don’t think that I am able to teach lessons to the breeder or the federation” – Mirel Radoy.
In the team’s last match in the Nations League, Romania drew 1:1 with Finland, and beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4:1 at home.
Romania finished Group 3 of League B of the Nations League in last place in the rankings, losing to the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland and Montenegro, relegated to League C (third value).
