Serena Williams and choosing when to retire: When she could still beat good opponents

In an interview with History Talks, Serena says that she has always carefully considered the timing of her career and that she wanted to stop when she is still playing very good tennis and when she can still beat worthy opponents.

“I just had to stop. I’ve always said that I want to stop when I’m playing really good tennis, winning and beating good players.

What is really important to me is what I want to do spiritually and spend time with my daughter and family.

As a very active mom, I can’t tell you how hard it was. I lost a lot of games after I got the Olympia because it was really hard for me to be on the court.

I feel like I’ve given so much of my life to tennis, my whole life, that now it’s time to do something else for myself and work on other aspects of my life.” – Serena Williamsfor “History Talks,” according to Vanity Fair.
