Pope Francis signed an agreement on Saturday in Assisi, a city in central Italy, with many young people from around the world, with whom the sovereign pontiff wants to build “an economy of peace, not war.”
Thanks to this agreement, signed by approximately 1,000 young people from 100 countries to participate in a three-day meeting called “Francesco’s Economy”, the signatories of the document commit to building an economy “at the service of man, family and life”. , which respects every woman, man, child and elderly person, and above all the most fragile and vulnerable,” AFP and Agerpres reported.
The young people present in Assisi – economists, students, entrepreneurs and workers – also want “an economy that fights poverty in all its forms (…) and creates wealth for all,” according to a statement released by the Vatican.
“Our common home is about to become a ruin”
“Our generation left a lot of wealth, but we did not know how to save the planet, and we do not protect peace. I call on you to become artisans and builders of our common home, a common home that will soon become a ruin,” Pope Francis told the youth before signing this pact.
“The new economy, inspired by the actions of Francis of Assisi, today can and should be an economy that respects the earth and an economy of peace,” added the leader of the Catholic Church.
“The situation is such that we cannot wait for the next international summit, which may no longer be useful: today the earth is on fire and from now on we must change at all levels,” concluded Pope Francis before returning to the Vatican aboard a helicopter. .
