Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview given to some French publications, trying to evade and not to give numbers, said that “about 50 Ukrainian soldiers die every day”, which, in his opinion, is five times less than the losses of Russian soldiers, reports Le Figaro, taken from News.ro.

Kyiv and Moscow continue to give very different accounts, each claiming to have lost far fewer lives than the enemy, as it is difficult for the media to obtain accurate numbers of civilian and military casualties.

In this interview with Ouest France, 20 Minutes, TV5 Monde and Nice-Matin, Zelenskyy tried to avoid answering questions about that balance, saying it was difficult for him to get exact numbers.

“They provide me with data. But the Military Commissariat does not want to report the exact number of dead Ukrainian soldiers at the front. We also have fragmentary figures for civilian casualties. I remain cautious, and we must not forget that human lives are at stake,” he said.

Every day, 50 Ukrainian soldiers die at the front

After all, Zelenskyi calculated that “about 50 Ukrainian soldiers die every day” – that’s 10.5 thousand since the beginning of the war on February 24.

In his opinion, “the mortality rate of Russians is five times higher.”

The balance proposed by the Ukrainian president remains in the “trend” of the one announced in August by the Ukrainian General Staff at an extremely rare press conference on this very sensitive topic.

“During the six months of the Russian invasion, approximately 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers died,” the head of the Ukrainian army, Valery Zaluzhny, said at the time, as quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

A month later, taking into account this balance of losses of 50 soldiers per day, Zelensky’s data coincides with previous statements.

Moscow puts forward, for its part, very different balances.

“Our losses at the moment amount to 5,937 dead,” Russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu said in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel on Wednesday.

In his opinion, Ukrainian losses exceed 100,000 dead. Thus, according to Shoigu, Russia would register 16 times fewer deaths than Ukraine.
