Finland will close its borders to Russian tourists after the country saw a sharp increase in Russians entering its land border after Moscow mobilized reservists for the war in Ukraine.
Several Finnish ministers announced on Friday evening that the government in Helsinki will ban Russian tourists from crossing the border with Finland in the coming days.
“The aspiration and goal is to significantly reduce the number of people coming from Russia to Finland,” the country’s president, Sauli Niinisto, said on public broadcaster Yle, the Financial Times reported.
The decision came after the entry point from Russia to Finland was very crowded on Friday, with the number of Russians trying to escape the mobilization announced by President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday increasing.
