“Romania is in an extremely difficult situation, on the one hand, due to reasons related to the war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine, on the other hand, I think it is good to know that Romanians and the Romanian government are not standing idly by. by, they participate, I work and, surprisingly for many, for me, naturally, everything is good in Romania and the Romanian economy is growing. This is very, very positive news,” the president said at the meeting, where he was accompanied by his wife, Carmen Iohannis, and Romania’s ambassador to the United States, Andrej Murau, reports news.ro.

Klaus Iohannis said that regarding the crisis we are facing in Romania, we are in a situation we have not been in for a long time, “crisis, crisis, crisis” and yet “we are coping”.

Iohannis recalled Romania’s support for Ukrainian refugees, Romania’s contribution to solving the crisis related to the export of Ukrainian grain, noting that currently 60% of Ukrainian grain has passed through Romania.

According to the president, the energy crisis is a reality for Romania as well, stating that energy has not only become more expensive, but also more difficult to obtain.

“Together with the Government, we managed to keep prices at a reasonable level. We can guarantee Romanians in the country that they will not have to stay in the cold and in the dark during the winter, even despite the difficult situation,” President Iohannis emphasized.

“I wanted to describe these things to you so that you would understand that we have a situation that is, on the one hand, full of difficulties, on the other hand, full of opportunities, and only the ingenuity, ingenuity and diligence of the Romanians make it possible during all these crises to have, surprisingly, economic growth. And, strangely enough, this innovativeness, resourcefulness and hard work make you work well here too,” Klaus Iohannis told Romanians in the US.

He stated that the war waged by Russia against Ukraine is the cause of the crises we are facing.

“I mentioned the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. It is the cause of all the crises we are facing, as well as the energy crisis, the food crisis and, to some extent, the economic crisis we are facing in Europe. It is completely unexpected, it is tragic that we have a war in Europe again, and we hope that this war will not escalate. You are somehow far from these horrors, we are very close. Among all NATO allies, Romania has the longest common border with Ukraine, and we believe that it is right, it is morally right, it is ethically right to help Ukraine, and we do it in every way,” Klaus Iohannis emphasized.

Iohannis also mentioned the strategic partnership with the US, which is 25 years old this year, adding that “and thanks to the American support of Romania in NATO.”

He noted that there are many companies from the United States operating in Romania, but unfortunately there are very few Romanian companies operating in the US, “but maybe there is still room for growth.”

“We have entered into a partnership with the United States of America and other important partners to develop nuclear reactors, but not conventional ones as we know them, but so-called small modular reactors, this is a new technology, these are reactors. which can be made in smaller areas and which can be used very flexibly. The first reactor of this type in Europe will be built in Romania, not in Eastern Europe – in Europe. This is a great achievement, and we believe that in a few years we will receive a special benefit from this technology, namely that they will be produced in Romania for use in other countries,” the president said.

Iohannis stated that this is an advanced technology that actually shows the great trust that the United States institutions have in Romania, being a notable achievement of this partnership, which he believes is still not much talked about.

“And finally, the best part of this Strategic Partnership is the people, without people there is nothing. The Romanian community in the United States of America is an extremely important bridge between Romania and the United States of America. It’s you and I thank you!”, concluded the president.
