The classic Portofino series from IWC Schaffhausen was first born in 1984 and has since gained a fanatical following. The idea was simple: why not turn a Lépine moon phase pocket watch into a wristwatch? It was inspired by IWC chief watchmaker Kurt Klaus and chief designer Hanno Bertscher over a glass of wine. According to legend, Bertscher drew a pocket watch case with bows on a napkin. It turned out to be the perfect idea at the right time. The new watch family is named Portofino after the picturesque seaside village in Italy, which in the 1950s became the home of the international elite and made history as an exclusive luxury summer holiday destination. Portofino watches have a laconic design, with classic round cases and simple dials with hour markers, Latin numerals for 12 and 6 and leaf-shaped hands.

Today, the Portofino collection has been updated both in terms of design and functionality. It has been enriched with many women’s models in different sizes, with new complications and advanced materials. Let’s get to know them. IWC Schaffhausen presents the Portofino Automatic 34 and the Portofino Automatic 34 Day & Night with a charming day and night display in 34 mm cases, the Portofino Automatic 37 and Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 in 37 mm, two models are manufactory movements that can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystals on the case back. All watches are paired with either leather straps or a five-link bracelet.

What makes this women’s watch truly exciting is that it combines functionality and luxury, freshness and timelessness, understated elegance and ergonomics.

Every woman has six options to choose the one that suits her best. Models in steel are paired with either leather straps or a five-link bracelet, and there are exquisite versions in 18k rose gold or with diamonds on the bezel.

The most sparkling model is made of steel and features a total of 66 diamonds weighing nearly one carat. Approximate prices: 6,750 euros (with steel bracelet), 11,600 euros (steel with bracelet and diamonds on the bezel).

Portofino auto Day & Night 34

The first portofino with a particularly romantic complication of day and night. The corresponding indicator appears in position 6 of the dial with a special disk that makes one complete revolution every 24 hours, showing that it is morning time. or pm This means that at noon or midnight, the sun or moon, respectively, are at the highest point of the disk. Hidden inside is the IWC 35180 automatic caliber.

The Portofino Automatic Day & Night 34 is available in three versions: the first (Ref. IW459801) has a steel case, a silver-plated dial set with 12 diamonds, gold-plated hands and hour markers, and a brown leather strap. Price: 7350 euros

The second (Ref. IW659801) has a steel case set with 54 diamonds on the bezel, a blue dial set with 12 diamonds and a blue leather strap. Price: 12,200 euros. The third (Ref. IW659802) in 18k rose gold with 54 diamonds on the bezel, silver-plated dial set with 12 diamonds and brown leather strap. Price: 21,500 euros

All new Portofino 34 models are equipped with a quick-change strap system.

Portofino Automatic 37

For women who would like to wear a slightly larger watch on their wrist, the 37mm diameter seems to be ideal as it is a satisfying size that is not devoid of elegance and femininity. The new Portofino 37s are comfortable to wear even with evening wear, and inside they have been upgraded compared to the older models, as they now feature IWC 32000 movements with 120 hours of autonomy.

Six models for every taste. Three more simple, steel with silvered, green or dark gray dials and 12 diamonds on the hour markers. Prices: €6,450 (with strap), €7,550 (with bracelet).

The other three are more expensive and more formal: two have an 18K rose gold case, silver-plated dials set with 12 diamonds on the hour markers, and their bezels are either plain or set with 60 diamonds. They wear beige or black leather straps. Prices: €14,700 and €20,500 respectively.

Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37

The most romantic moon phase complication plays a leading role here, prominently at the top of the dial. Exquisite mechanisms can be admired through the sapphire crystal on the case back.

There are three models with moon phases. Both are steel, with a silver-plated dial and 12 diamonds on the hour markers. One of the two is set with 60 diamonds on the bezel. Both wear a blue leather strap. Their prices are: €5500 and €14900.

The third version, in 18k rose gold, also features 60 diamonds on the bezel. Price: 23,900 euros

Portofino Chronograph 39

This is the watch we see on Gisele Bündchen. Measuring 39 mm in diameter, this is an impressive automatic chronograph with a steel case. It has a silver-plated dial with fine hour markers and two counters at 12 and 6 o’clock.

Inside is a remarkable in-house movement, the IWC caliber 69355, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal on the caseback.

The Brazilian beauty becomes IWC’s first environmental and community advisor. It is no coincidence, of course, as in addition to her important career in the modeling business, she is known for her environmental activities. It has even been awarded by Harvard University and other prestigious academic institutions for its long-term commitment to protecting the environment.
