
Finland will prepare a “national solution” to limit or even completely block the transit of “Russian tourists” on its territory, the country’s foreign minister said on Wednesday, AFP and Reuters reported.
Finland is closely monitoring the situation in neighboring Russia following President Vladimir Putin’s military mobilization order, the Scandinavian country’s defense minister said on Wednesday.
“Regarding Finland’s environment, I can say that the military situation is stable and calm,” Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen said. “Our defense forces are well trained and the situation is being closely monitored,” he added.
Lines of cars formed at Russia’s border with Finland as more Russians tried to leave the country after Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Monday morning, in his first address to the nation since the invasion of Ukraine, that he had signed a partial mobilization order in Russia.
Russia is mobilizing 300,000 reservists to strengthen its forces in Ukraine, Defense Minister in Moscow Serhiy Shoigu also announced, claiming that this is only a small part of the number of people who can be mobilized in the country.
Closed borders for Russians
Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have closed their borders since Monday, September 19, to Russians with visas to enter European territory, a fact that worries opponents of the Kremlin, especially present in Poland, France Info reports.
However, the website states that exceptions will be made for certain categories, for example, opponents of Vladimir Putin’s regime.
These four countries, together with Finland, are the only ones in the European Union that share a land border with Russia.
