Six people have died as a result of severe floods that swept through central Italy, the Civil Defense said on Thursday evening, DPA reports.
Six victims were killed in three towns in the province of Ancona in the central Marche region, Italian news agency ANSA reported, citing the Civil Defense, which said three more people were missing.
The president of the region, Marche Francesco Acquaroli, wrote on Facebook that he was following “the development of the very serious meteorological crisis that has hit our region and the rescue operations.”
The same day, the Civil Protection Service issued a warning urging residents to move to higher ground due to flooding.
The provincial government in Ancona says the flooding was the result of “persistent and prolonged rain” that fell in the afternoon. (Source: Agerpres)
