
Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova have agreed to enter into a tripartite intergovernmental agreement to stimulate relations and cooperation in the field of energy and increase the bilateral exchange of electricity through the conclusion of short-, medium- and long-term bilateral contracts, the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, announced.
He took part on Thursday together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bohdan Aurescu in the first tripartite meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Energy of Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, which took place in Odesa, Ukraine, reports Agerpres.
“Regarding cooperation in the field of energy, during the meeting, emphasis was placed on immediate support measures that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova need in the cold season, as well as on long-term measures to strengthen energy security. of them, with an emphasis on regional interconnection, also taking into account the need to combat the use of energy for geopolitical purposes. Thus, an agreement was reached on the conclusion of a tripartite intergovernmental agreement to stimulate relations and cooperation in the energy sector of Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. We have also agreed to increase the bilateral exchange of electricity between the three states by concluding short-, medium- and long-term bilateral contracts,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page.
The meeting in Odesa was attended by Minister of Energy from Ukraine Herman Galushchenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development from the Republic of Moldova Andrey Spinu, Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau Nika Popescu and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
The tripartite meeting was also attended by representatives of energy companies from three countries – from Romania, the management of Transelectrica, their invitation reflects the strategic commitment of the three countries to closely cooperate in this area.
“The launch of this tripartite format is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the three neighboring states, both in the current context of Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine and the multidimensional crises affecting Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as in the context of the prospect of establishing a long-term dialogue and coordination mechanism” , – Virgil Popescu also wrote.
