A 50-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for murdering a gas station cashier last year during anti-Covid restrictions who insisted he follow the rules and wear a protective mask.Reuters citing Reuters DPA.
The verdict was handed down by a German court.
The court found the man, who was named Mario N., guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He admitted murdering the 20-year-old gas station attendant but pleaded guilty to manslaughter with limited culpability. Traces of alcohol were also found in the blood of the accused in the murder.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the gas station worker asked the man to follow anti-COVID rules and wear a protective mask while paying for the beer he bought. After initially refusing and leaving the gas station, he returned wearing a mask, but took it off when he approached the cashier and, after another brief conversation, shot the employee in the head.
The victim died immediately, and Mario N. later presented himself at the police station, citing that the anti-COVID restrictions had caused him stress.
