Iran: Greek sailors of two tankers return

Finally, it seems that the adventure of the Greek sailors begins, who are on two Greek-owned tankers captured in Persian booty after the Revolutionary Guards’ resalto.

In a statement, the Panhellenic Merchant Marine Union notes that during a recent visit by a Greek delegation to IranTehran took a serious step back and agreed to replace two crews.

“The hostage situation of 49 Greek and foreign sailors on tankers seized by the Iranian armed forces on May 27, 2022, has already exceeded 3 months.

All this time, PENEN has been following the case of the Sailors hostages very closely, maintaining contact with them as well as with their relatives, while its intervention continues with the competent Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Shipping.

The Iranian authorities have reduced the armed guards stationed at two Greek D/Ws, they are allowed to communicate with families, they provide necessary medicines for those with health problems.

On the other hand, the psychological state of all Marines is drastically aggravated due to the special conditions in which they find themselves every day, as well as the uncertainty prevailing so far regarding the time of their return ….

During the recent visit of the Greek delegation to Iran, the Iranian side took a significant step back by accepting and agreeing to the replacement of two crews.

This means stranded Marines will immediately return to their countries of origin.

According to our information, the beginning of the release will probably begin tomorrow, Monday, with the return of the Greek vice-captain of the Prudent Warrior. It is expected that today he will be issued an appropriate visa.

On the second ship “Delta Poseidon”, in which the number of Greeks is 9 people, they will be replaced in the coming days and upon return it will be the entire Greek crew.

Similar promotions are launched in parallel for foreign seafarers of two D/Fs.

All Greek sailors will be replaced by foreigners, except for one Greek who wishes to remain on board.
