Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke made a gross mistake in a statement in which he spoke about the negotiations in Brussels on limiting the price of Russian gas, saying that a decision is expected at the end of the month at the level of the “Council of Europe”, instead of the European Council.

“I spoke with the Minister of Energy after the ministerial meeting in Brussels. The positions of each country are presented, a decision has not yet been made. The proposals should be discussed and developed in COREPER so that a decision is made at the level of the Council of Europe by the end of the month,” Chuke said.

However, the Council of Europe and the European Council are different institutions.

The Council of Europe is the largest human rights organization on the continent, with 46 member states, including all member states of the European Union.

The European Council is an EU institution that defines the general political orientations and priorities of the European Union. The members of the European Council are the heads of state or government of the 27 EU member states, the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission. Decisions at the EU level are made by the European Council.
