NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday criticized the logic of Berlin’s arguments against supplying large quantities of weapons to Ukraine, which is fighting a Russian invasion.

Responding to the question whether allies should question the goals of increasing military power, rather than supplying Ukraine with additional equipment, Stoltenberg emphasized that, in his opinion, the defeat of Ukraine is more dangerous than a decrease in the pace of building up arms stocks. NATO countries, the German DPA agency reports, citing Agerpres.

“By ensuring that Russia, President Putin, does not win in Ukraine, we are also increasing our own security,” Stoltenberg said at a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Brussels.

The use of weapons by NATO countries helps reduce the risk of aggressive actions by Russia against allied states, he added, noting that more than 80% of the Russian army is involved in the war in Ukraine.
