Chisel and Memory, stop in Penteli.

From Athens, the Acropolis Museum, Corfu, Thessaloniki, Mytilini to Taranto in Italy and the city of Shengu in China, wherever he has been represented, he has left the best impressions. Exhibition “Chisel and memory. The Contribution of Marble Works to the Restoration of the Monuments of the Acropolis” by the Acropolis Monuments Protection Service, which is so beloved by the public, continues to travel.

Those who did not have time to see her have the opportunity to visit her from the 12th of the month in the Palace of the Duchess Placencia or otherwise the Castle of Rhododaphne, i.e. the summer palace of the eccentric Sophie de Marbois-Lebrun in Penteli, as part of the 1st Mount Penteli Festival, a new establishment that takes place every year at the beginning of September. Its purpose is to highlight the cultural heritage of Pentelikos and his contribution to antiquity, monuments and treasures, quarries and even the Byzantine heritage of the region.

The Municipality of Penteli and the Municipality of Athens cooperated in establishing the institution. After all, they maintain ties from antiquity. Lifagogia Street is an ancient road along which the famous, flawless, white, transparent Pentelian marble descended from Penteli to the monuments on the Holy Rock. Impressive photographic evidence of the activity of YSMA (Director Vasiliki Eleftheriou) excites the visitors of the exhibition, who follow the progress of the work from the construction site, giving us the opportunity to feel what the craftsmen shared in each operation. The human moments and stories behind the major restoration projects at the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike and of course the Parthenon. Black and white photographs in six sections, testifying to the hard work, self-sacrifice, passion, collaboration, camaraderie and pride of the Acropolis marble makers. Masters who seem to be floating, as if they were “filmed” by a camera, through dangerous places, cooperate in technology, condense experience. This interesting exhibition at the new station will be extended even after the end of the Penteli festival so that it can be visited by schools in the region and neighboring municipalities.
