Lab confirmed flu refers to diseases tracked through the Mandatory Disease Reporting System (SYDN) EODI.

Total of from 7 July to 31 Augustwere announced via SYDN 174 influenza cases (86 laboratory confirmed by PCR and 88 by antigen test).

One hundred and seventy-two (172) cases were type A and two (2) were type B. Twenty-five type A samples were subtyped, of which 24 belonged to subtype A(H3N2) and 1 to subtype A(H1N1).

The number of reported cases was approx. five times more than the number of cases reported in the same period in 2019. via SYDN (37 influenza cases) until reported not a single case of influenza in the period 2020-2021..

Of the reported influenza cases, 160 were Greeks (92%) and 14 foreigners (8%) from nine countries, all from the Northern Hemisphere.

The median age of cases was 22 years (range: 1–75 years), while 10 cases were in children ≤12 years of age. 58% of the patients were men.

Of the 174 reported cases of influenza, 35 (20%) were hospitalized and 2 of these were admitted to the intensive care unit.

Of the 164 permanent residents of Greece, information on domestic travel during the incubation period was available to 160 (98%). Of these, 117 reported domestic travel during the incubation period.

Ninety-four cases (80.3%) traveled to the Cyclades, 9 (7.7%) to the south Aegean, 8 (6.8%) to the Ionian, 3 (2.6%) to the north Aegean and 3 ( 2.6%) to destinations in mainland Greece.

It is recalled that in order to prevent the spread of the virus in society, personal hygiene and personal protective equipment must be strictly observed, while vaccination remains the most effective preventive measure for the population.
