The Acropolis Rally, an iconic race in the history of the WRC, will take place September 8-11 for the 10th time of the year.

2022 is a year of big change for the top WRC class, with cars powered by hybrid powertrains and running on 100% green fuel.

Ford’s first off-road racing M-Sport WRC combines, as required by the regulations, a 1.6-liter turbocharged Ecoboost gasoline engine with over 380 hp. with 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor. Its total power on special tracks can sometimes exceed 500 hp.

The WRC3, a championship for cars of Rally3 specification, will be competed by the Car Center crew, member of the official Ford network, Nontas Karanikolas and Giorgos Kakavas.

Having won two consecutive Greek F2 two-wheeler championships in 2020 and 2021 driving a Ford Fiesta Rally5 and Rally4 respectively, Karanikolas decided to try his hand at a four-wheel drive Fiesta Rally3 by competing in high-level international competition.

The start of this year’s Acropolis Rally will take place in spectacular fashion with O.A.K.A., where the ECO Super Special will take place, on Thursday evening, September 8th. The program then includes special routes in Corinth and Central Greece before finishing at the Panhellenic Exhibition of Lamia at noon on Sunday 11 September. In total, the Acropolis rally includes 16 special routes with a length of 303.3 racing kilometers.
