The new winner of the US Open 2022

Late in the evening in New York (around 02:20) Carlos Alcaraz lost to the experienced Marin Cilic (2014 US Open champion) in five sets.

6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 for Carlos at the end of a contest that lasted three hours and 54 minutes.

Earlier, Rafael Nadal was defeated by Francis Tiafoe 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in three and a half hours of play.

The US Open will therefore have a new winner as no quarter-finalist has won a career Grand Slam.

The only US Open quarter-finalists to reach a Grand Slam final are Nick Kyrgios (Wimbledon 2022), Casper Ruud (Roland Garros 2022) and Matteo Berrettini (Wimbledon 2021).
