These days the heart of Venice beats in cinematic rhythm with 79th Venice Film Festival, which brought the cream of the 7th art to the Italian city for another year.

Among the directors who have attended the festival so far are Emanuele Crialese who presented his film nominated for the Golden Bear. “Immeasurable” with her Penelope Cruz.

The film goes back to the 70s and Rome to tell the story of the Borgetti family, whose members find themselves in a tense environment. Something even more will be caused by the eldest daughter of the family who decides to define herself as a boy.

“I was inspired by my childhood and my story, which is transferred and rethought here,” commented the director autobiographical character of the film, while at the same time publicly revealing for the first time that she was born biologically female.

In particular, Emanuele Crialese said: “I think the best part of a man is to be a woman. I don’t really see the difference between being in one world or the other. I am who I am and I hold both sides. […] I was born biologically a woman. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a huge feminine side.”

The director, who introduced himself as a trans man in his new film, also commented on his identity at the press conference: “We don’t decide to go on a journey like mine. You were just born that way. I have no memory of perceiving me as anything other than what I am. So there is no choice in this.”
