About 2,000 mostly Russian-speaking demonstrators marched in the western city of Cologne on Sunday, demanding Germany end support for Ukraine and lift sanctions it imposed after Moscow invaded its neighbor earlier this year, Reuters reported.
The rally, organized by groups of the city’s Russian-speaking diaspora, was met by several dozen counter-protesters, who also gathered in the shadow of Cologne’s huge Gothic cathedral to express their support for Ukraine.
Germany is home to about 3 million Russians, many of whom are heavily influenced by the Kremlin’s narrative about the world through state-controlled Russian television, which is widely available.
Yesterday in Prague, today in Cologne… Demonstrations against aid to Ukraine, NATO, sanctions. The cost of living will be a top priority issue for European far-right/left movements in the coming weeks. This is solid ground for hybrid warfare. Be alert! pic.twitter.com/Ed8XoagW1U

“There is chaos in Germany,” said Olena Kolbasnikova, an organizer, echoing President Vladimir Putin’s claim that Russia’s invasion was protecting Russian-speaking people in eastern Ukraine.
