​Bianca Costea reached the final in the 50m freestyle of the World Junior Swimming Championships, showing the second time in the semi-finals in Lima (Peru).

Bianca finished in the first position in the first semi-final (25.43) and was beaten only by the Italian Matilda Biagiotti (25.36 – she swam in the second race).

The 50m freestyle grand final will take place on Monday, September 5, from 03:17 (Romanian time).

Also in the pool at the Wieden Aquatic Center in Lima, Andra Gorecki missed out on qualifying for the 100m butterfly final, clocking 01:03.43 (13th semi-final appearance).

Romania, an extraordinary result at the Junior World Championship in Lima

So far, Romania has won five medals at the World Championships in Lima:

  • silver at the distance of 400 m freestyle among men (Vlad Stanku)
  • gold in the men’s 4×100 m freestyle relay (David Popovici, Alexandra Constantinescu, Stefan Kozma and Patrick Sebastian Dinu)
  • gold at the distance of 200 m freestyle (David Popovichi)
  • silver in the 4×100 m freestyle medley relay (David Popovici, Patrick Sebastian Dinu, Bianca Costea and Rebecca Diaconescu)
  • bronze at the distance of 800 m freestyle (Vlad Stanku).
